We created this section to share the highlights, insights, and materials from our participation in the 11th Biennial Oil Spill Response Technology Workshop, so our partners, clients, and industry peers can explore how ITS Environmental is shaping the future of sustainable spill response and ecological recovery.
We are deeply honored to have been invited by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) to participate in this prestigious event, one of the industry’s most respected platforms for advancing spill response and environmental protection.
The 2025 workshop was sponsored by Marathon Petroleum and held at the Marathon Refinery in Carson, California, with additional co-sponsorship from Phillips 66, Shell, and Chevron.
This year, ITS Environmental was the only surface washing agent (SWA) developer invited to present, a recognition of our innovative work in helping the oil and gas industry reduce environmental impact while protecting wildlife. Our founder and CEO, Pilar Ortega, introduced our patented, EPA NCP-listed GTS-Oil Recovery, a smarter SWA designed to work in synergy with naturally occurring microorganisms or, for faster results, with the addition of our GTS-Microbes. This powerful combination lifts and floats oil for efficient recovery while accelerating natural biodegradation and long-term habitat restoration.
As part of our participation, we showcased a live demonstration video that captured how GTS-Oil Recovery works on contact, not only separating crude oil from contaminated sand, but also restoring the sand to its original clean state. The demo further highlighted the product’s impact on volatile emissions, showing how it helps reduce harmful vapors at the source. Visitors to our booth shared that they had never seen a product perform like this before, reinforcing the groundbreaking nature of this technology.
We are also thrilled to share the exciting news that following this workshop, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife officially approved our license for GTS-Oil Recovery as an authorized surface washing agent for spill response, a major milestone that validates our commitment to protecting wildlife, reducing environmental impact, and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable oil and gas industry.

Is a patented, high-performance surface washing agent engineered to lift and float hydrocarbons from sludge, contaminated soil, and water, including marine and shoreline environments. Its powerful action releases and floats trapped oil, making recovery faster and reducing waste while turning lost hydrocarbons back into valuable product.
Designed to work in synergy with GTS-Microbes, GTS-O.R. enhances both selected and naturally occurring microbes to accelerate bioremediation and shrink the hydrocarbon footprint after cleanup.
GTS-O.R. a Patented Lift & Float Surface Washing Agent (U.S. Patent No. 8,491,721 B2), is listed on the U.S. EPA National Contingency Plan (NCP) Product Schedule and licensed by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, Office of Spill Prevention & Response (OSPR). This certification confirms that GTS-O.R. meets some of the strictest standards for official oil spill response, from open-ocean releases to coastal cleanup operations. compliance while adopting an eco-friendly, effective spill response that addresses the issue at its source.
